A doctoral (PhD) student is being sought to work on a project jointly funded by the National Science Foundation and Paul Allen Family Foundation at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Briefly, the project develops a PCR-type test to genetically at-risk wildlife species, and by combing genetic data with online market data, the project seeks to establish illicit wildlife trading networks. The student will work on developing analytical techniques to determine where and when to deploy the genetic testing. In addition, the student will work with researchers in data science and geography to identify networks of illegal trade of shark and turtle products and use simulations or optimization methods to evaluate policy interventions.
